We want to start with engaging the scapula. Fully protract and retract the scapula focusing on the motion from the back of the rib cage. Think of the shoulders acting independently of the rib cage. You don't want to jut your ribs upward when trying to move the shoulders. They are isolated joints that are capable of moving on their own so long as you actually focus on moving them and not other parts of your skeletal structure with it! Pronation, protraction, retraction, internal and external rotation are all the various motions that your shoulders are able to move in - but you just have to make sure that you are moving them wisely and with purpose!
