On my one year anniversary of practicing LYT nearly every single day I thought it would be appropriate to share how transformational this has been for me. Its been a slow and steady progression and nothing was gained overnight but I stuck with it and eventually began to realize positive results. At 54 years of age I have never looked or felt better. My hips are no longer stuck now that "hinge at the hips" has become such a familiar ritual. My core has never been stronger and I have finally learned what it feels like to engage the core. Development of my core has all but eliminated any lower back pain that would crop up every now and then. My glutes are no longer the lazy muscle that they once were. My glutes have become the big movers after I now understand how to wake them up daily. They also have taken over the work of the low back which continues to benefit me in every way.
When I started my yoga journey with Lara the original goal was handstand. It has taken me a year but I feel like I am oh so close to getting it. I feel the weight shift of shoulders over wrists, I feel my core engage as I push off with my lower leg. No longer is there a wild kick. Instead I am in control and know I will get the hang of it in the coming months ahead. I understand the concept of functional mobility and this is now my purpose. I have heard Lara say that she wants to be able to tie her own shoe when she is 100. This speaks to me as well. Functional mobility is a big motivator for me.
I have also experienced life more fully off the mat. This past summer I rode my bike 300 plus miles from my house to Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen to raise funds to support the wonderful work they do.
I am now in a leadership role at my work. My experience of practicing yoga and listening to podcasts of Lara's has helped me to understand the concept of self care and how I can use my practice to bring out the best in others.
I am super happy that I have discovered LYT Daily and have already signed up for year two! This year I am hoping to final get to practice with Lara in person!
