Let's break down cobra pose. The goal of cobra is to get length in the spine in a balanced way and achieve some opening in the front of the chest.
We want to ensure that all segments of the spine are all extending in a symmetrical way. In a lot of problematic cobra poses the cervical spine is over extended and the lumbar spine is compressed. We want to ensure you are protecting your low back by engaging your core and suctioning it back towards your spine while engaging your glutes to help hold your pelvis steady.
With your hands under your shoulders, energetically pull your hands back to activate your scapulae, and achieve the lengthening in the thoracic and cervical spine. Think about the balance between your lower body and upper body as you activate both the front and back of your body. It truly is a full body pose!
Consider your cobra carefully to achieve more balance in a safe and sustainable way. It may feel more challenging than you are used to, but it will ultimately help you feel amazing in your cobra and beyond!
