Let’s go over the most fundamental biomechanics that serves the most important function in yoga - a neutral pelvis. A significant amount of people suffer with pelvic tilt - whether anterior or posterior. The pelvis serves such an important role in the body as it keeps everything in line. A neutral pelvis influences a neutral spine - both of which are crucial for optimal and pain-free movement.
There are a few different ways to keep a neutral pelvis, but the biggest problem that people have is they sink into the pelvic bowl. You want to suck the belly in and when you inhale, you want to focus on breathing UP and lifting the ribs straight up thus lifting all the organs up and out of the bowl. When you do this you will really feel the abs engage and may even tighten to pull everything up and out. You may even feel a stretch in the lower abdominal that leads down towards the pubic bone. This will also level everything and open up the back. You will definitely feel it!
Lay down into happy baby to help finalize the flow and set everything into place. Use this time to really feel the work that you put your core, hips, glutes, and pelvis through. You will certainly feel the work that you’ve done, yet at the same time, you’ll also feel refreshed and alive! Come up to a seated position with your eyes closed. Use your sit bones as little feet for the pelvis. Let this reinforce and balance the basin of the pelvic bowl. Find your balance in all aspects of life. Carry that energy through to your daily life - don’t just let your happiness end once you get off the mat! Namaste!
