To harness the strength in your hamstrings, we want to focus on moving with energy, and harnessing that energy up through the floor and into your body. The key is to use that energy to activate the tissues of the hamstring.
We need to change the framework of our thoughts and harness the energy. There needs to be a perfect balance of tension and suppleness in each position. Ensure that you focus on the belly of the hamstring. Feel the stretch from the sit bone to behind the knee. Harnessing is not about sagging - it's about stretching and reaching back into position.
There is also a mental connection with harnessing energy. When you put your mind into the hamstring stretches, you will begin stretching eccentrically. If you sag back during stretching and let your shoulder's collapse, you will lose that harness, that mind-body connection, and the flow of energy. You don’t need to do weight bearing! If you have constant integration of harnessing you will feel the difference. Weight bearing is not protective and more redundant than helpful. I want you to feel the integration of the hamstrings into the pelvis - I want you to feel how everything is connected.
Feel yourself aligned over your sit bones. Imagine webbing between and around your sit bone. Practice inhaling and feel this upward lift - this harnessed energy. Exhale and soften. Let’s hold onto this idea of harnessing our energy as a source of incredible power and an incredible connection of hamstring, pelvis, and core. Namaste!
