Light up the core like never before! How do you do that? By staying solid and hold the hips, maintaining a neutral pelvis and practicing breathing patterns. It will take a lot of work to relearn how to breathe while keeping solid in the core - like lifting the ribs up and the belly up and out of the pelvic bowl.
A great way to really zip up the midsection and engage the core is making sure that you hinge at the hips and sit back into your glutes throughout all motion. Not only does that create the necessary space in the hips for optimal functionality of the joints, but it really tightens up the midsection nicely! This is really great for not only the core, but hips and glutes as well. You are moving in every way the body was designed to move!
One thing that we want to avoid in every stance of today’s flow is the sinking posture. If you need to use a block to help with your posture and avoid sinking then do so. It is better to do a move with help than move poorly and force yourself through the motions. Remember, greatness is achieved through challenge and over time - it does not appear overnight!
Do be sure to check in with pelvis frequently during the flow. You can do so by putting one hand on the front of your body below the belly just above the pubic bone, and the other hand goes in on the back at the sacrum. Your hands will be a clear indicator as to whether your pelvis is tilting or not. It will also help show you, if you are tilting, how to properly adjust to achieve neutrality.
Let’s come onto our backs now preparing for savasana. Ensure that your sacrum is sitting flat along the mat and really feel the entire core from the base of your pelvic floor all the way up to the outer shoulders. Feel that whole area percolating with more energy! Let it be absorbed throughout the body. Bring yourself to a seated position sitting tall atop your sit bones.
