Most people tend to ignore the neck when they think of the spine. What most people DON'T know is that the cervical spine is directly connected to the lumbar spine. For any of my gym goers out there, next time you go to do a bent over row, or deadlift, check your posture in the mirror. Then instead of looking upwards in the pulling motion upward from the floor, keep the neck neutral and see how that alters the position of the lower spine. You'll see a massive difference, but most importantly, you'll FEEL a massive difference. Sometimes you just have to take it back to basics and rework the posture and simple biomechanics of the body.
Some things you want to keep track of during this flow is the position of your head in relation to your neck. Where does your skull sit? Is it perfectly centered atop the cervical spine? Is your head coming forward too much? These little nuances can cause increased tension over prolonged periods of time. Worst of all is that people choose to go through life with this pain and tightness unnecessarily! These pains can easily be prevented! All you have to do is take a simple 15 minutes out of your day and move! It's that easy. Namaste!
