A little negotiating with yourself goes a long way and today I use the word “just” to help you convince yourself to grow and get stronger. I reframe “just” to tap into positive psychology and expand what's possible on your mat. Often we use the word “just” in a negative sense to explain the all the reasons we can’t have what we want in life, for example, “If I was JUST a little bit taller, thinner, richer, etc. then I would be happy, able to do a handstand, etc.” Instead, let’s use the word to take you a little further and help you grow. When you start feeling a burn, stick with it and JUST breathe! JUST two more breaths is your step towards strength. We're going to stay in some poses a little longer and take small steps to expand.
Sometimes starting is the hardest part so we will break it down and JUST start with the core and then go from there. This is how you get stronger - you bargain with yourself. You make these little concessions, “I will just stay here for two more breaths,” and then all of a sudden you are doing things you didn’t know you could do. When you do this there is a huge reward. We create strength through our negotiation of JUST hanging in there a little bit longer.
You don’t need to have everything in place to do something. Little steps really create the big shifts. For example, if you have a goal to be healthy and you start feeling overwhelmed - JUST start with one meal. So today, JUST roll out your mat and start with core. Know that yes - I am JUST a badass and I can do this if I JUST show up on the mat.
